Yellow Cow Wood

Yellow Cow Wood

Cratoxylum cochinchinese

The Yellow Cow Wood, a slow-growing hardwood tree, is native to Hong Kong. The peeling trunk is yellow and smooth; its pattern is reminiscent of some cattle species. It has near oval-shaped leaves and blossoms small red flowers.

Many people believe the Yellow Cow Wood can detoxify, remove dampness and eliminate stagnation, which is why it’s often used in Chinese medicine for treating colds. The leaves are made into a refreshing drink and it is one of the ingredients of “Bitter 24 Varieties” – a traditional Chinese herbal tea.
